Rio Platano Biosphere - 5 Days Nature,
Hiking, Indigenous Culture Day
1 Meeting
at the airport in La Ceiba. Flight to Palacios, located on the border to
the Moskitia. Palacios is the meeting point between the indigenous and
mestizo communities. Immediately after we will board a motorized canoe
which locals call a "tuk-tuk". We cross the huge Ibans Lagoon
to reach the community of Playitas. Here we start our hike lasting
approximately 1 hour to the Misquito village of Kuri. In the afternoon
leisure time to enjoy the village's beautiful beach. Overnight in Kuri. Day
2 After
breakfast we will board our boat which will take us from Kuri to the
Pech community of Las Marías. Going up countercurrents along the banks
of the Plátano river. Along the way we will observe various ecological
changes between the coastal vegetation formed mainly by mangroves and
lagoons, and the tropical lowland rainforest. Brief stop for lunch. At
late afternoon we will arrive in Las Marías. Typical dinner. Overnight
in Las Marias. Day
3 Las
Marias is the last and furthermost community of the Río Plátano
Biosphere. In the heart of the jungle, we will observe plentiful
wildlife on a hike through the tropical rain forest surrounding the
community, in the company of our guides, the Pech. After the hike, we
will return to the community for lunch, with leisure time to interact
with locals or bathe in the river. Typical local dinner and overnight in
Las Marias. Day
4 Early in the morning we say goodbye to the Pech and return to the
Caribbean village of Kuri. During the boat ride we will admire the
exotic birds sighted along the way. After lunch enjoy the unspoiled
beach. At nightfall we will take a dugout canoe to explore the mangrove
lagoon close to Kuri to observe crocodile. Typical local dinner and
overnight in Kuri. Day
5 After
breakfast we walk back to the community of Playitas where our "tuk-tuk"
waits to bring us to Palacios. Flight from Palacios to La Ceiba where
the tour ends. La

Honduras. Please ask for suggestions or see our vacation and dive
