Classic Cusuco National Park

Classic Cusuco National Park  -  2 Days

Cloud Forest, Hiking

Day 1 Meet with your guide at 08:00 am transfer to Buenos Aires, a coffee-growing community in the damping zone of the Cusuco National Park. In Buenos Aires we make a brief stop to taste the locally grown coffee and take a walk in the village followed by a typical Honduran lunch. We then continue through magnificent landscapes until reaching our camp. On the way, the ecological transition from a mixture of tropical broadleaved and pine forests, to the tropical cloud forest, containing many epiphytes, such as bromeliads and orchids is observable. In the afternoon we hike to a nice waterfall where we can enjoy a refreshing plunge in a forest pool. Typical dinner and overnight at rustic campsite. (L,D)

Day 2 In these dense mountain forests, humidity is condensed out of the clouds brought by the trade winds rather than provided by rain. This secures an even distribution of the life-giving liquid among the plants that grow under the closed canopy. Early morning trek on cloud forest trails to appreciate biodiversity. With some luck we may spot a variety of wildlife such as toucans, monkeys, pumas, tapirs or the resplendent quetzal. After admiring the splendid flora and fauna, we return to camp for a typical lunch. In the afternoon we drive back to San Pedro Sula. (B,L)
